In recognizing the growing needs of climate-aware therapists for connection and learning, please join us for our first members-only peer clinical case presentation and discussion. Wendy Greenspun will present a client with climate distress, including aspects of its broader relevance to the challenges of doing climate aware therapy. The presentation will be followed by a peer group discussion for all participants facilitated by Penelope Starr-Karlin and Debbie Sturm. Clinicians from all theoretical and practice backgrounds are welcome.

Wendy Greenspun, Ph.D. is a psychologist/psychoanalyst practicing in New York City and is a board and steering committee member of CPA-NA. She is on the faculty of the Manhattan Institute for Psychoanalysis, the Adelphi University Postdoctoral program in Couple Therapy and the William Alanson White Couple Therapy Training program. She has led workshops for students and activists on building emotional resilience in the face of climate distress, facilitates and teaches facilitation of climate cafes, and has published, presented and taught nationally and internationally on the climate crisis to mental health professionals and wider audiences.
Penelope Starr-Karlin, PsyD, LMFT, is a contemporary relational psychoanalyst and an individual, marriage, and family therapist in private practice in West Los Angeles, California. She is a training and supervising analyst at ICP/LA where she teaches Intersubjective-systems theory, and psychoanalytic approaches to dreams. A long-time citizen activist, Penelope participates in the ‘Clinical Support’ subcommittee, organizes and facilitates the online bi-monthly ‘Linking’ discussion groups, and is currently setting up a non-fiction climate-psychology ‘Writers Support Group.’
Debbie Sturm, PhD, LPC, is a Licensed Professional Counselor, and Professor at James Madison University in Virginia. Her clinical specialties include trauma, community violence, family systems, nature-connectedness, leadership & advocacy, and climate change & mental health. She has graduate coursework, training, and teaching in environmental advocacy, environmental education, climate resilience efforts, environmental justice, and communication strategies. She is a member of ACA’s Climate Crisis Task Force and most recently the Chair of the Human Rights Committee. She received the 2013 SACES Award for Outstanding Teaching, the 2020 SACES Courtland Lee Social Justice Award, and the 2021 Counselors for Social Justice Climate Justice Award. She is the Chair of the WACES Committee of Climate Change and Sustainability, currently working on developing competencies and curriculum modules for counselor educators.
