This emerging field is essential: the more we recognize and tolerate feelings arising from the climate crisis, the easier it will be to connect with others, act in collaboration, and envision a just and equitable solution.
We are growing, and on the cusp of building a continent-wide network of mental health providers who are dedicated to fostering resilience, expanding awareness, and advocating on behalf of communities experiencing the varied mental health impacts of this crisis. Our members are therapists, counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, and all other mental health workers. We are also open to health workers, educators, journalists, spiritual leaders, researchers … anybody who cares about the way climate change is impacting our mental health.
From wherever you are in North America, join us. We need you.
What’s included in annual CPA-NA membership:
Access to our members-only North American climate psychology listserv
The opportunity to list your practice (if you are a licensed mental health provider or a post-graduate student receiving supervised clinical hours in a supervised setting) on the climate-aware therapist directory.
Access to members-only clinical resources, including clinical consultant groups for licensed professionals (in development)
Networking among professionals working at the crossroads of climate and mental health across the US and Canada
The chance to collaborate on envisioning and creating new models of care, outreach, and climate mental-health oriented advocacy in areas such as activist support; youth support; parent support; frontline care, etc.
Discounted admission to our climate cafe facilitation trainings.
Professional Membership
$75 per year
Special Membership Levels
We regularly audit our membership levels, so please only consider a Student or Retiree membership if you are NOT an actively practicing clinician or other type of employed professional (journalist, educator, etc.). Additionally, we need to correctly classify students vs professional memberships for accurate end of year nonprofit reporting. That said, if you otherwise have circumstances that necessitate paying a lower amount, please reach out directly and we will try to accommodate you. We do not want to turn anyone away for lack of funds.
Student Membership
$25 per year
Retiree Membership
$35 per year
We do not want anything to stand in the way of you becoming part of this network of care. If our fees are an issue, please let us know.

Get Started with CPA-NA
Once you’ve become a member, there are lots of ways to get started with our work at CPA-NA—whether your focus is on networking, getting trained in climate-aware practices, finding collaborators to design curriculum, or volunteering behind the scenes.
Here are some of the ways you can get involved and support us:
Register on the Climate Aware Therapist Directory. If you are a licensed mental health professional in good standing, actively practicing in the community and offering climate-aware services, we encourage you to join our directory.
Follow us on Bluesky, Instagram, LinkedIn, & YouTube for timely events and articles.
Attend one of our upcoming climate cafe facilitation trainings, workshops, or talks. (Think: “A Conversation About Climate with Bill McKibben & Sally Weintrobe” or “How to Facilitate and Host a Climate Cafe”.
Check if there is a regional coordinator for your area. If not, contact Dan Murphy (danmurphy@climatepsychology.us) to become one for your state/province.
Collaborate with one of our committees on a climate and mental health related project.
Volunteer to support the organization. We need people for all kinds of organizational roles! If you’d like to volunteer, contact us with your interests and availability: info@climatepsychology.us
